LOCATION: Tulsa, Oklahoma
The section of Mingo Road from 61st Street to 71st Street was originally a two-lane country road. With Tulsa’s increasing traffic load, improvements were made increasing the width of the road to five lanes and implementing safety features to bring the road up to City of Tulsa standards. Two challenges in the completion of this project were the heavy traffic associated with Union High School and the inadequate stormwater infrastructure serving the developing area to the east of the project site. Traffic control and construction scheduling were implemented into the project plan to accommodate the heavy school traffic. Extensive storm water engineering was performed before an offsite 48” storm water pipe and an open channel was implemented to handle the Mingo Creek and Haikey Creek watersheds. Crafton Tull provided ground surveys, right-of-way plans, existing-utility location, roadway construction plans, hydrologic analysis/design, and 48” storm water pipe and open channel.
