Crafton Tull designed the reconstruction of a 1.5-mile section of U.S. Highway 70 through Fort Towson, Oklahoma. The project began just west of the intersection of State Highway 109 and extended east past the intersection with State Highway 209. Construction plans for roadway grading, drainage and paving, replacement of an old two-lane steel girder bridge over Lake Raymond Gary, and extension of a triple 1- foot x 6 foot concrete box culvert were prepared. Portions of the road that pass through Fort Towson were widened to five lanes; with the majority of the widening occurring on the north side of the existing roadway. In rural areas, the two-lane highway was improved with wider shoulders and safty features. Bridge replacement was accomplished with phased construction. The project was let in January 2006 for $6.8 million to M.J. Lee Construction and was complete in November of 2008.
