Dave RobertsThe City of Maumelle turned to Dave Roberts, Crafton Tull planner, for the planning and design of a splash pad and an inclusive playground. Dave, who not only lives in Maumelle but also has a special needs daughter, worked with the Inclusive Play Committee to locate the best site, select the playground company, and master plan the new park. Crafton Tull produced the color rendering and CAD file the playground representative needed to prepare cost estimates. Dave assisted in education and fundraising presentations for the city council and a chamber of commerce event. Following the initial fundraising phase, the splash pad was completed and opened to the public in July 2021.
Crafton Tull worked alongside the City of Maumelle while fundraising for the second phase of the park continued. The inclusive playground opened in June 2024 and features an “Arkansas Fishing Hole” design concept for the park, which is located next to Lake Valencia. The rubber surface is blue and green to represent water and lily pad areas. The playground ramp that leads to platforms while shade canopies over the platforms to protect the kids and caregivers. Details on the play equipment are stylized with fish and aquatic motifs. The splash pad elements are similarly customized to fit the fishing/lake theme with cattails, reed sprays, and water cannons on the edges. As a part of Phase II of the project, Crafton Tull produced construction documents for the playground.
