Arkansas Tech Connect Trail

Client

Arkansas Tech University

Completion

2017

Location

Russellville, AR

The Arkansas Tech Connect Trail is a 0.35-mile, 10’ wide bicycle and pedestrian trail built on the west side of campus. A 90’ pre-manufactured pedestrian bridge was installed to cross Prairie Creek. The bridge is a Trail Blazer Bridge Design built by Pioneer Bridges and was shipped to the site in two pieces, assembled, and then lifted into place. The asphalt trail features a flat concrete curb on each side of the 8’ travel path, which was put in to prevent edge raveling of the asphalt trail when Prairie Creek floods and covers the trail. Because the trail is constructed within the boundaries of the U.S. Corps of Engineers Flowage Easement within the Prairie Creek drainage basin, a Consent for Easement Structure was required from the Corps of Engineers to allow the construction.

There were no delays in the project schedule, and the project was constructed on the initial schedule. The Arkansas Connect Trail is part of the Russellville Connected Trail System as a cooperative effort between the City of Russellville and Arkansas Tech University. This trail gives direct pedestrian and bicycle access to the City of Russellville’s Aquatic Center from the ATU Campus, which allows students the opportunity to use the aquatic center without having to drive to the center from campus.
