QuikTrip Park

Client

The City of Grand Prairie

Completion

April 2008

Location

Grand Prairie, TX

The City of Grand Prairie, Texas, wanted a minor league professional baseball team within its city limits to enhance its economic development and quality of life for its residents. The City and the team wanted a ballpark that would fit within an existing development district where Lone Star Park (horse racing) and the Nokia Theater (performing arts center) were currently located. Crafton Tull designed a state of the art ballpark.

The ballpark seats 4,200 fans with typical amenities of restrooms, concessions, excellent sightlines to the field, and ease of egress and circulation. Unique amenities include a progressive boardwalk surrounding the entire ball field, Kids Zone and pool, cigar bar, restaurant, beverage bar, suites, and party decks. The design of the park reflects Grand Prairie’s aviation history, complete with steel trusses that recall an airplane hangar.

Crafton Tull, in conjunction with the Grand Prairie Parks and Recreation Department, developed plans for a playground that connects to the QuikTrip Park (a minor league baseball stadium) at Grand Prairie, Texas. Crafton Tull’s design provided the experiences found in many of the parks in the Grand Prairie system. In addition to a jungle gym and playground with rock climbing, it features miniature golf, a scaled-down baseball diamond, basketball courts, and a performing arts area. The design also included a mist fountain, an entry kiosk, concession terrace, and storage building. QuikTrip Park was named “Best New Ballpark” of 2008 by Baseball Digest.

“Crafton Tull’s expert staff turned an empty field in our entertainment district into a top notch ballpark that attracted tens of thousands of baseball fans to see the Grand Prairie AirHogs baseball team. The staff at Crafton Tull were responsive, dedicated and committed to the project.”
