Runway Bike Park Pump Track

Client

The Jones Center

Completion

October 2018

Location

Springdale, AR

The Runway Bike Park Pump Track at the Jones Center in Springdale is a mountain bike skills park and a world championship-caliber pump track. Crafton Tull engineers designed the drainage plan for the pump track to create a one-of-a-kind experience for cyclists in Northwest Arkansas. Due to the nature of the pump track design, the bowls are prone to flooding unless a proper drainage plan is implemented.

Since the park is in the vicinity of the Springdale Airport, the ultimate growing height of landscape elements, the height of berms, and the height of additional park features were major considerations. In some areas, the track is below the original grade to allow for a greater elevation change without exceeding the FAA's maximum allowable elevation.

The pump track was the largest in the continental U.S. at the time of its completion and hosted the 2018 Red Bull Pump Track World Championship Final. Crafton Tull provided civil engineering, landscape architecture, and surveying services for this project.
