Lowell, ARCrafton Tull provided services for surveying, design, and construction administration for the Cow Face Road (County Road 615) bridge replacement project located approximately 2.1 miles east of Highway 264. This structurally deficient bridge was often clogged with debris that drifted downstream. A new, more open design for the two-lane bridge was employed to solve this problem.
A prefabricated arch bridge and mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls were selected to decrease construction cost and construction time. The single-span design will also prevent debris build-up at bridge piers. The crossing has high estimated flow velocities during flood events, and Articulating Concrete Block (ACB) mats provide a scour-resistant solution.
Surveying for the project included a topographic design survey and land survey. Crafton Tull coordinated the bid process and construction administration. The project included 404 permitting.
